Dell Inspiron - Tips, Issues and FixesHere you'll find some tips and fixes for Dell Inspiron laptops that I've come across so far... 1. How to adjust the LCD display settings: Use the 'Fn' + up/down arrow key to adjust brightness of your screen. 2. How to put your laptop into energy conservation mode: Use the 'Fn' + Esc key. 3. How to disable the touchpad: If you're not using the touchpad you may get annoyed by its sensibility... so disable it. To disable your touchpad - go to Start Button - Control Panel - Mouse Properties - Device Settings. Select the Synaptics TouchPad line and click Disable button. 4. The CD drive would crash when a CD with autorun option was inserted. This is a software problem. You need to update the CD drive driver. Go to Dell Support and select Home and Home Office. Click on Downloads tab, select 'Removable Media Storage Devices', select your operating system, and click Go. Then select your device from the list. If you don't know which optical drive you have than choose the 'click here' option to determine your device. 5. Can I close my laptop without turning it off? Yes, just close the top, and the Inspiron will switch to the hibernation mode. As soon as you open the top, the laptop will switch back on. 6. Where is access to the hard drive in Dell Inspiron 5100? The hard drive enclosure is combined with the PC Card slot enclosure. So by releasing two screws on the bottom of the laptop (right below the PC Card slot) you'll be able to pull the hard drive out by pulling the PC Card slot enclosure out. 7. Where is the CD/DVD drive release latch in Dell Inspiron 5100? It is under the Memory cover... Go back to Dell Inspiron 5100 review. Contact Us: infogate@comcast.net |
