On a daily basis, your laptop is being attacked by intruders that take advantage of your lack of security. Some want to put you out of business, and some want to know what your business is ...

• protects your DSL or cable-connected laptop from hackers
• allows only traffic that you know about
• allows you to decide which programs can or cannot use the Internet
• blocks Internet traffic while you are not using the Internet

A FireWall should start automatically every time your turn on your computer.

2. Anti-Spying software (free)

You should install the Anti-Spying software to remove the sneaky 'spyware' and the annoying 'adware' programs that silently intrude your computer. In short, spyware collects and sends out your personal information while adware attracts Pop-up ads.

Get free anti-spying software Ad-Aware from LavaSoft to clean up your registry from spying programs and delete adware cookies that attract pop-up ads.

The Ad-Aware should be run on demand periodically.

3. Anti-Virus software

This is self-explanatory. There is no Security without anti-virus protection. I recommend McAfee Vshield at www.mcafee.com. But you can check out www.symantec.com for Norton AntiVirus also.

Note: Firewall does not protect from viruses.

4. Anti-Spam

An Extra Step you may need to take to protect yourself from email Spam. The easiest and a free way of doing it is to sign up for Hotmail.com account and have your less important correspondence going there. Hotmail.com will take care of the spam for you.

Another option is to sign in for $2.50 a month for the CloudMark internet plug-in from SpamNet.
